Lectio Divina – October 2, 2023 | Monday of the Twenty-six Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
Proper of Readings for the Monday on the Twenty-six Sunday in Ordinary Time
Reflection by Bro. Herb Vincent Hernandez
A lot of us take pride in everything that we do. When we do something great, we think ourselves of highly and that is alright. But when we think of selves too highly and we look as our neighbors as inferior, this is where things become wrong. In the gospel, Jesus said “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” This portrays the humbleness of children because of their naivety and lack of recognition in the society. Jesus tells us to let go of all the concept of power but instead turn it into service. The best example of this is being a Servant Leader.

Traditionally, Leaders are always seen as authoritative, a grasp of power, and to take control. Being a Servant Leader is the opposite of all of those qualities. As your position gets higher, so does your responsibilities. Servant Leaders promotes the quality of leading by example. We must always humble ourselves, no matter what because at the eyes of the Lord we are all the same. Like children we must always be humble especially when asking something from God.
Reflection Question:
- Do we lead by serving with love?
- Do we have a child-like faith?
- Are you a Servant Leader?
Final Prayer
Lord, please always enkindle my heart with child-like faith. Always help us in serving you and our neighbors and that we humble ourselves so that we may always serve with love. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son. Who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
