Lectio Divina – October 12, 2023 | Thursday of the Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

“For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Proper of Readings for the Thursday of the Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reflection by Bro Arkin Jeff Lanuza

This is what Jesus said to his disciples about the significance of a friend seeking help during the middle of the night. the persistence in faith and trust revolves around the Gospel according to Luke in which Jesus tells his disciples about the concept of persistence – the ability to continue the same quality of work done. Persistence is what must empower in us as Christians and as members of the movement. Having that persistence to pursue what do we vision to accomplish our mission, to sanctify and evangelize the young faith. Although having persistence in faith requires patience, guidance and strength, yet there will be times that we will be hindered by sin and potentially questioning God’s plan, just like in the first reading of the prophet Malachi, which reminds us to follow God’s mighty plan and commandments in order to increase our persistence in faith and in truth.

Having hope in God’s plan shows trust in him, in which he entrusts us in our everyday missions. Just like what the psalms said that God blesses those who hope in him. Having the hope, trust, and following of God’s word and commandment allows us to be persistent in our target goals, and must be embodied in each of us, as members of the movement.

Point of Reflection:

The readings of today reflect on our persistence to the Lord, in trust, faith, and commitment. We may reflect on the following question:

1. How persistent are we in listening to God’s word and commandments? And as serving him as our one true God?

Final Prayer

O God, Father of all creation, as we listen to your word today, may the Holy Spirit guide our minds, lips, and hearts to do your will. May the words of the Gospel inspire us to have the persistence in truth, faith, and strength to know, love and serve your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, with the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen
